It's a Love Thing
SCHOLAR
Model 118 Subwoofer to Debut at NSCA 2002
SKOKIE,
IL, March 6, 2002 --- MacPherson,
Inc., manufacturers of high-performance
professional loudspeaker
systems, will introduce their SCHOLAR Series Model 118 Subwoofer at
NSCA Expo in booth #918.
While
the name SCHOLAR is an acronym for Self-Cornering
HOrn-Loaded ARray,
the term is also right on target for this subwoofer's "knock 'em
dead" performance. During field tests, the SCHOLAR Model 118 has received a bevy of A+
marks.
Musicality
and Unparalleled Articulation
Designed
to enhance the performance of full-range loudspeaker systems, the
SCHOLAR Model 118 brings true musical reproduction to low-frequency
sound. Utilizing a band-pass
design with critically damped tuning, the cabinet's unique geometry
traps cone distortion and unwanted content.
The typical "sub" sound is gone, leaving excellent bass
definition and high SPL output. As an added bonus, no special processing
is required with the Model 118. Where
most subwoofers require extensive electronic manipulation, the Model 118
needs only the standard high-pass and low-pass functions provided by an
electronic crossover.
The
SCHOLAR Array
While
the Model 118's performance is outstanding in single-use applications,
the result is stunning when configured in multi-cabinets arrays. Using the SCHOLAR configuration, an "acoustic corner" of
low-frequency output is created. In
this way multiple cabinets are able to take advantage of their own
band-specific eighth-space loading.
Designed
for Versatility – Installed or On the Road
With
an overall height of just over 23 inches, the Model 118 is ideal for a
variety of applications. Cabinets
will fit conveniently under stages (including standard 24-inch high
portable staging systems), be designed into theatrical sets,
incorporated into dance clubs, and other applications where space is
limited. The Road Version has been designed for touring ease. Four flush-mounted
handles enable two crewmembers to easily maneuver
the cabinet.
The
Install Version is available
in two configurations. The standard configuration is offered for permanent installations
not involving overhead suspension. The
second configuration contains 16 threaded attachment points, allowing
the cabinet to be suspended singly or secured into a grid system.
"We're
absolutely in love with this subwoofer," said Gordon Kapes,
president of MacPherson, Inc. "That’s how we came up with the
'Low Frequency Love Thing' for our ad campaign.
One of our customers heard it and said 'you can't help but
feel the love.' Everyone who's heard this sub is knocked out
with the sound. We can't wait
until NSCA."
